  • Symantec presents latest technologies and solutions at Vision Beijing 2008

(EMAILWIRE.COM, November 28, 2008 ) Hong Kong — Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today welcomed more than 1,000 customers, partners and industry experts to its annual user conference, Symantec Vision 2008, in Beijing. The conference highlighted key trends and advances in security, storage and systems management and provided insights into some of Symantec's leading technologies and solutions that are helping customers secure and manage growing volumes of information.

At the conference keynote session, Bernard Kwok, senior vice president, Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ), Symantec said, "One key issue facing organisations in Greater China and across the world is the need to secure and manage growing volumes of information, and to do so with a more complete view of their IT infrastructure."
"With businesses today operating in challenging economic conditions and facing the conflicting goals of managing shrinking budgets while increasing productivity and efficiency, Symantec is focused on helping our customers manage their valuable information easily and protect it completely with our industry leading technology and solutions."

In his keynote address, Robert Soderbery, senior vice president, Storage and Availability Management Group, Symantec, put the spotlight on the consumerisation of IT. Soderbery discussed the trend toward employees introducing their own consumer devices – including laptops and mobile devices – into the workplace, resulting in a change of how enterprises deliver services to their employees and customers.

"Corporate IT managers have previously enjoyed almost total control over their IT environments," said Soderbery. "We are seeing this change as organisations are faced with an increasing requirement for the exchange of critical information regarding customers, partners and employees. The challenge for IT managers is to find ways to enable the use of a wide range of technologies in the workplace while ensuring the data residing in the network is secured and managed appropriately. A key part to managing this change is to put in place policies, educate employees and implement data loss prevention and encryption tools so that organisations can understand where their data is and how it is being used."

Following the keynotes, approximately 40 break-out sessions covering several major themes, including information security; storage and data backup; business continuity; IT risk management and compliance were held throughout the day. There were also customers and partners presenting on technology best practices and a product showcase of Symantec's leading solutions. In addition, attendees enjoyed opportunities to communicate and share experiences with a range of IT experts and their peers.

At the conference, senior executives and experts from Symantec also shared insights into some of Symantec's latest technologies and solutions and the benefits they bring to customers.
Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0 MR3 provides expanded customisation, management and performance enhancements including optimised client and server performance, further scalability controls and virtualisation support. This solution further builds on the stability and efficiency of Symantec Endpoint Protection, enabling comprehensive protection and optimal performance for all environments.

Symantec Data Loss Prevention (DLP), version 9.0 provides organisations with increased ability to discover, monitor and protect confidential information wherever it is stored or used. Consistent product innovation, responsiveness to customer requests and integration with complementary Symantec technologies are driving Symantec's industry leadership in DLP.

Key areas of innovation in the new version of Symantec Data Loss Prevention include broadened coverage of endpoint events, simplified endpoint DLP agent management and enhanced data discovery capabilities.

VCS for VMware is the only integrated high availability and automated disaster recovery solution with rich application awareness to fully protect mission-critical applications in VMware ESX environments. With the recent addition of VMware VirtualCenter protection, it is also the only one-stop HA/DR solution for an organisation's entire VMware ESX environment. VCS for VMware is fully integrated with VMware VirtualCenter, complementing key VMware capabilities such as VMware Vmotion for reducing planned downtime and Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS) for active workload management.

"As one of the fastest growing markets in the world, the greater China region plays a vital role in Symantec's global strategy," said Andy Wu, vice president, Symantec Corporation and president, Greater China Region. "Our long term commitment to the market is to add value to our customers in the greater China region by helping them secure and manage their information-driven world. Symantec is also focused on helping to boost the local software industry through our continued investment in building our research and development presence in this market."
