(EMAILWIRE.COM, December 16, 2008 ) WESTPORT, Conn, -- Westport Consulting Group, a leader in financial services product and business development consulting, will celebrate its 20th anniversary this month, including the success of two spinoff software companies - Proposal Software, Inc. (PSI) http://proposalsoftware.com, and Enterprise Incentive Software, Inc. http://eimsoftware.com (EISI) - independent companies that were spawned by WCG and that are thriving in the current economic downturn, according to
Managing Director John A. Laurino.
"We modeled Westport Consulting Group after the original McKinsey & Co., of a seniors-only firm offering clients experienced and proven experts in their respective disciplines for each specific assignment versus one team to fit all of our clients' needs," Laurino said. He added, "We give our clients exactly the team they need, with no learning curve involved, that can plug in, make specific recommendations, and leave. This is very cost-effective and particularly attractive in today's outsourced world."
Laurino credits Westport Consulting's success to catching the downsizing trend of the late `80s early by offering venerable financial services companies like J.P. Morgan Private Bank, Banker's Trust, Citibank Cards and U.S. Trust, best-in-class senior executives with more than 20 years' experience "for rent" to meet specific needs for a point-in-time issue such as a product not working properly, or the challenges around entering a new market or developing a new product.
"We exclusively focus on financial services and although we have been approached to consult for other industries, it critical to focus on what we know best to develop trust with our clients," Laurino said. Half of WCG's clients are in banking, a quarter in the insurance-related businesses, and a quarter in the brokerage and investment management business. He added, "Our job is to provide our clients with a proven process that reduces their risk and builds a foundation of confidence based on facts. It's our job to find that ‘fatal flaw' in any concept and prevent our clients from being blindsided if and when they go to market."
Twelve years after founding Westport Consulting Group, Laurino started Westport Software Group, Inc. that later became Proposal Software, Inc. and Enterprise Incentive Software, Inc. to meet the needs of Fortune 1000 companies in the financial services, healthcare, legal, and HR sectors.
"In the early 1990s, there were no off-the-shelf technologies available to support the rapidly increasing demand for request-for-proposals (RFP), request-for-information (RFI), as well as sales incentive compensation needs of our consulting clients,
so PSI and EISI were borne out of that need," Laurino added.
