(EMAILWIRE.COM, May 18, 2010 ) SAN DIEGO, Calif., May 17, 2010 – Technology Services World 2010 Silicon Valley concluded last week, achieving—with 704 delegates—a 35% year-over-year increase in attendance. The event, hosted by TSIA and themed Clouds on the Service Horizon, focused on today’s hottest topics, including cloud computing, social media, and service strategy change initiatives.
Highlights included:
• Services and the Cloud. Drawing on findings from the recently inaugurated “Cloud 20” index, TSIA executive director Thomas Lah captivated the audience with his opening keynote on the impact of new IT consumption models on the technology services industry.
• Women in Services. Women in Services, a TSIA community of interest organized just one year ago, enjoyed record-breaking attendance at its fundraising networking dinner, and anticipated a substantial contribution to Dress for Success San Diego.
• Education Services. TSIA’s nascent Education Services community was jumpstarted with a networking breakfast meeting and an engaging follow-on panel discussion on the role of education services in increasing product adoption and customer value realization.
• Reshaping the Future. A stellar panel of five service industry leaders discussed their roles as change agents in their efforts to reshape the future of technology services within their companies. The panel included Sanjay Singh from Akamai Technologies, Stuart Cooper from Alcatel-Lucent, Leo Annab from CA, Tara Bunch from Hewlett-Packard, and William Steenburgh from Xerox Services.
• Defining a New Model. In a “fireside chat” with TSIA president and CEO J.B. Wood, acclaimed author and technology industry expert Geoffrey Moore described how the old model of selling enterprise IT products had run its course, and encouraged service executives to elbow their way into the corporate dialogue about future revenue growth and profits.
• Service Revolutions. In a first-of-its-kind event for the technology services industry, conference attendees participated in the Service Revolutions showcase, where nine companies presented leading-edge concepts, technologies, and products that represent breakthrough thinking with the potential to transform the services landscape. Voted on by the audience, the winning three companies—eXaudios, Kopin, and Xerox—were presented the new TSIA Service Revolutions Vision Award at the closing luncheon and awards ceremony.
• TSIA Communities of Interest (COIs). Kickoff meetings were held for the Cloud/SaaS and User Generated Content Management COIs. Our Healthcare/Med Tech COI sponsored a panel discussion of the impact of healthcare legislation on technology services, while the Services Engineering and Support Services Partner Management COIs delivered readouts on content under development in their respective groups. The Consumer Support community met to hear a panel discussion on the continued drive to push customers to the Web, while the Education Services community engaged in a dialogue on the role of education services in closing the consumption gap. Meanwhile, Women in Services held two breakout sessions—one on mentoring, and a second on profiles in success.
• Technology Services Expo. More than 40 TSIA partners were available in the conference Tech Expo for members to learn about the latest in service technology and solutions.
