The information was later removed from Apple’s website, but the pricing was listed as beginning at $649 for the 16GB model, going up to $849 for the 64GB version.
According to PCMag.com, the prices briefly listed on Apple’s site are $450 more than the versions of the phone that require a contract and are carrier-subsidized. There are several reasons that consumers value an unlocked phone, one of which is that they are not locked into lengthy and restrictive contracts with a phone company, another of which is that they are able to use T-Mobile service, which does not carry the iPhone. Another big reason many consumers seek an unlocked phone is because it adds a great deal of value to an iPhone, for resale purposes.
