  • John McAfee Says He Has Left Belize reports Authority Blogging Platform

(I-SoftwareNews.Com, December 13, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA -- The founder of an anti-virus software company says he has left Belize, where he was linked to a killing.

John McAfee said in a blog posting that he would not disclose where he is and insisted he would return to Belize. Authorities in that Central American country have sought to question McAfee as a “person of interest” in the killing of a fellow U.S. citizen.

About three years ago, McAfee moved to Belize to avoid paying higher taxes. He sold his shares in the company that makes the McAfee anti-virus software early in the 1990s.

In early November, Gregory Viant Faull was shot dead in Belize. McAfee says that Faull complained about McAfee’s dogs and that later they were poisoned. Shortly after, Faull was killed, but McAfee insists he did not do it.

McAfee dropped out of sight and has been communicating through blog postings. On Monday, he described a failed plan to fool officials.

McAfee said he had a double with a North Korean passport try to stage a distraction by getting arrested in Mexico, which shares a border with Belize. The ruse failed. “Due to indifference on the part of authorities (he) was evicted from the jail and was unable to serve his intended purpose in our exit plan,” he wrote in his blog.

McAfee confirmed his blog posting in an e-mail to The Associated Press.

He had said in an earlier interview with The AP that he did not intend to leave Belize.

“I’m not going to leave this country. I love this country, this is my home,” McAfee said. “I intend to fight the injustice that’s here from here, I can’t do much from outside, can I?”

On Monday, however, McAfee said he had left the country because a female companion named Sam was at risk.

“I left Belize because of a series of events which led both Sam and I to believe that she was in danger of capture,” he wrote in a blog post. “She has been my go-between and my eyes and ears in the outside world.”

McAfee vowed to return to Belize after he is sure Sam is safe.

“My fight is in Belize, and I can do little in exile,” he wrote.
