The first video is a video within a video that covers 34 mistakes that Jenkins and Filsaime found in marketing videos.
Initially when Andy and Mike brainstormed about Video Genesis, they identified 101 mistakes found in marketing videos. However, the pre-launch video was consolidated into 34 mistakes, and Jenkins and Filsaime explain how to fix these mistakes. The 34 mistakes they identified fit into three categories, which they named as the geeky stuff, the visual stuff, and the message. The geeky stuff is the technical stuff like the audio balance, encoding, aspect ratio and other stuff like that. The visual stuff are things like bad camera framing, ugly design, distance overhead, etc. Lastly, the terrible message is a weak call to action, pointless feature thumping, and useless content that has no benefit to the viewer.
As mentioned, the first video is a basically a video within a video. It shows a video with Andy Jenkins in it making many mistakes found in a BAD video. After the extremely bad video, they identified each mistake found in the video and explain how it can be fixed.They explain that you don’t need new and expensive equipment to make a good video. With some simple tweaks on your camera white balance, audio, and other things, it is enough to improve the quality of your videos a lot.
