  • TSW 2011 Silicon Valley Reshapes the Future of Technology Services

(EMAILWIRE.COM, May 05, 2011 ) SAN DIEGO and SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 5, 2011 – Technology Services World 2011 Silicon Valley concluded on Wednesday, having drawn an impressive 725 attendees. The event, hosted by TSIA, focused on today’s hottest topics, including cloud computing, social media, value-added services, services revenue generation, and how to be a successful change agent in a product-centric company.

    Highlights included:

    • Crash-Proofing a Tech Business. In his opening keynote, TSIA executive director Thomas Lah outlined four trends that are disrupting traditional service business models: models: cloud computing, utility computing, mobile computing, and social media. Utilizing extensive industry datasets managed by TSIA, Lah outlined how service organizations can best address these challenges.

    • TSIA Reseach Revealed. Eight concurrent “Power Hour” sessions, presented by senior TSIA staff, revealed the latest findings in the areas of services HR, operations, leadership, strategy, and sales.

    • The Changing Role of Services in the Sales Process. In his Wednesday morning keynote, TSIA CEO J.B. Wood discussed the need to close the consumption gap that exists around technology products today. Wood shared some provocative thoughts around the major upcoming revolution of the traditional sales model that needs to occur in order to drive a very high volume of micro-transactions—the small business transactions that will determine how big the customer’s account will actually become. This evolution of the sales model—and the role that services must play—is being driven by the shift to cloud and other consumption-based product pricing models.

    • The IT Buyer of the Future. In a highly entertaining, humor-filled keynote on Wednesday morning, NY Times tech columnist David Pogue made some realistic and plausible predictions about the blurring lines between consumer and enterprise computing, what new technologies will be taken for granted, and what the new culture will look like in his “IT Buyer of the Future” keynote.

    • Women in Services. Women in Services, developed by TSIA association members to help women in the services industry to advance their careers and leadership skills, enjoyed record-breaking attendance at its fundraising networking dinner, and anticipated a substantial contribution to Dress for Success San Diego. Guest speaker Mary Cay Kosten, vice president of global customer support at EMC, shared an inspiring story about her successful rise to executive management in technology services.

    • Vision Awards @ Service Revolutions. Now in its second year, conference attendees participated in the Service Revolutions showcase, where eight companies presented leading-edge concepts, technologies, and products that represent breakthrough thinking with the potential to transform the services landscape. Voted on by the audience, the winning three companies— Hubcase, Philips Healthcare, and ServiceMax—were presented the prestigious TSIA Vision Award at the closing luncheon and awards ceremony.

    • TSW | EXPO. More than 40 TSIA partners were available in the TSW | EXPO allowing attendees to learn about the latest in service technology and solutions.

    • Services Revenue Generation Summit. In a special, two-hour session on the closing day of the conference, attendees were exposed to enlightening TSIA research data around the services revenue generation function. Participants engaged in a thought-provoking discussion about the role of services in driving top-line growth, including how leaders can best position themselves to drive that conversation inside their company. The session also featured guest speaker Juan Jones, senior vice president of customer support services in North America at Oracle, who shared how Oracle approaches services revenue generation.
