Port Townsend, WA -- Port Townsend, WA based Intellicheck Mobilisa has created a wide variety of security solutions for its customers. For example, there’s the Defense ID System for military facilities and airports, which scans data encoded in the magnetic stripes and bar codes on various forms of ID and instantly cross-checks the data to over 100 “bad guy” lists. There’s also Fugitive Finder, which gives police the ability to spot-check an ID card, anywhere, anytime; anytime; and ID-Check, which makes the approval process for in-store credit cards easier and safer.
Now Intellicheck is focusing on its latest “security solution”—the cloud. There is a solid motivation behind this move: Until now, many potential customers of Intellicheck’s technology might have hesitated before utilizing it, for several reasons. For example, there is the cost of upgrading a secure facility’s existing ID scanners to operate in tandem with Intellicheck’s own technology. Furthermore, there is the challenge of continually maintaining the latest version of the software that runs on the devices.
“We have successfully built new technology that can provide our patented driver’s license reading capability via server farms, allowing any company to utilize the cloud to be able to scan a driver’s license,” says Steve Williams, CEO of Intellicheck. “All the customer needs is an inexpensive imager or camera and an Internet connection. We have heard from retailers who are sold on the notion of buying our software to read driver’s licenses, but who are unwilling to absorb the hardware costs involved in purchasing new barcode scanners and having to install them at each point of sale. We will open more opportunities for our customers now that we can provide the same capabilities without requiring them to fund a costly upgrade of hardware.”
Cloud computing involves significantly less of an expense for customer support, Mr. Williams adds, and means Intellicheck will always able to provide its customers the latest versions of its security software. With the cloud, it will be unnecessary for customers to load drivers, or to check which version of software they have currently installed; Intellicheck will take care of that for them. The customers merely require an Internet connection, which will let them transmit the data to Intellicheck, which will do the parsing on its end and send its clients the answers. “We have a disruptive technology that is still very new,” Mr. Williams observes. “In years past, you never had your driver’s license scanned when walking into a bar, or at the point of sale at retailers, hotels and banks. In the future, IDN’s technology will make this possible. We now have of plenty of room to implement driver’s license-reading applications into our daily routines, and the cloud makes it all possible.”
The technical solutions used to meet the nation’s security challenges must evolve because the challenges faced by military facilities, ports, law enforcement agencies, and retail outlets are constantly evolving, adds Mr. Williams. “By harnessing the power of the cloud, we are taking security technology to the next level, giving each of our customers a much greater capacity to analyze the data they collect. They no longer need to worry about insufficient computing capacity—we will see to it that they have the options they require. We believe this represents a ‘new frontier’ in security technology.”
