    What Is A Computer Cookie

Firewall Or Antivirus What's The Difference
(I-SoftwareNews.Com, July 24, 2012 ) Palm Beach County, FL -- The DNS malware saga is over, however computer repair West Palm Beach hasn't gotten any easier. By now the story regarding the DNS Malware saga might be well known. Beginning in 2007, a group of hackers caught on to Internet marketing opportunities where they were paid per click; in short, if an ad received more clicks, the hackers received more money. Thus, the hackers found a way to game the system by creating malware that has become infamous: DNS Changer. This nasty piece of malware perverted the DNS – which is responsible for taking a website’s address and finding the numerical IP address used to connect to a website. Think of it as the voice dialer for your smartphone; in the same way that you say a name of a contact in your address book and your smartphone finds the number associated with the contact and dials the number automatically, so too does DNS and an IP address work in this same way.

This piece of malware would use the DNS to redirect a user to a different site. For example, if someone clicked a link to go to Amazon.com, the user would actually end up at “BudgetMatch.” After 4 years, the FBI fixed the problem in 2011, and many individuals and entities such as Google and Facebook took the time to inform people if they were infected or not. If they were, they gave them a set of instructions for removing the malware from their PC.

Many people that were infected with the malware were discovering one thing: it was incredibly hard to remove the malware since it installed itself so deeply into the computer’s operating system. Could this have been prevented? Absolutely, and one computer repair company by the name of A Plus Computer Support is taking the time to educate computer users in the West Palm Beach area, while informing them as to how they can keep their computers and mobile devices safe from malicious files such as DNS Changer and more.

“We like to tell people that when on the Internet, you should never open anything you do not trust,” said a representative at A Plus Computer Support, “if a pop-up window appears unexpectedly, select CTRL+F4 to close it without clicking. By doing that, you are not going to click anywhere on the window, and will not be at risk for downloading malware. Basically, download and open files from sources you trust.”

However, just remaining cautious is not enough:

“You need to install anti-virus and anti-spyware software from a trusted source such as Avast or Microsoft Essential Securities. AVG, Kaspersky, McAffee, and Norton just aren't cutting it any longer. You need to update all of your software on a regular basis, and never turn off your firewall. Also, if you are going to use someone’s flash drive, always be sure that you can trust them; malware has been spread from one computer to another simply by inserting a flash drive into someone’s computer only because people do not stop to think that malware can be installed automatically just by inserting a flash drive into a computer,” said a representative.

A Plus Computer Support understands how vital it is for people to protect themselves on the Internet at all times, which is why they are taking the time to help people who have never had the opportunity to be given this advice before.

“Honestly,” said a customer at A Plus Computer Support, “I wish I would have been given this advice sooner. It would have saved me a lot of headache, but I’m thankful that A Plus was here to give me the advice today. I’ll use it from now on, and even though these guys are friendly here, I hope I never have to come back!”
