  • Faxing Still a Large Industry that Continues to Grow Despite Email Reports FreeFaxSoftware.Net

(I-SoftwareNews.Com, July 25, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA - Today, you may think that faxing is already dead because of email’s popularity. However, you are wrong as many still believe that fax is easier and simpler to use than email. Moreover, fax is believed to be more secure than email. Hence, faxes are still widely used today.

Brent Lothrop, the president of The Fax Guys, said that fax is the only guaranteed method to transmit documents electronically. It is also widely used mostly in health care where there are various federal privacy rules to follow.

According to Medtronic, it sends and receives around 20,000 faxes each day. According to U.S. Bancorp, it sends and receives around 2 million fax pages each month. According to David Consulting, the fax market worldwide is projected to hit $2 billion this year.

Greg Osterdyk, The Fax Guys’ chief technology officer, said that the reason of faxes’ steady popularity is that it is more reliable and easier to use than email. Furthermore, everybody seems to understand how to use the fax.

Another reason for faxes’ longevity is that it has kept up with times. For instance, although stand-alone fax machine is still common, there are new modern fax machines that can also act as printers or copiers. At the corporate world, similarly with email servers, there are now fax serves which enable to send faxes electronically to each individual PC. This process is called “fax over IP.”

Dan Natale, Medtronic’s senior system administrator, said that people predicted that faxes’ popularity will soon end. However, currently, fax is not hanging on, Fax is still growing. It is very easy to set up, plus its cost is very low. On the other hand, setting up a secure email system is very expensive.

Osterdyk added how fax has become secured. Fax works through phone lines, which use dedicated connections between points. Hence, it is harder for a hacker to intercept the connection than in email since emails pass through various internet services on its way to its destination. Furthermore, because fax is being transmitted like a picture, it cannot be changed.

Hence, this is ideal for delivering signed and sensitive documents like medical prescriptions.

In addition, fax machines or fax servers instantly receive confirmation that the document sent has already been received and the time it was received. This is very important most especially in financial world to know the exact time when an order to sell or buy stocks was received. Email can’t give confirmation unless both the sender and the receiver use the same advanced software.
