This is a new domain from Microsoft and does not tie up with Hotmail. In fact, it is said that Microsoft is trying to regain its users through introduction of this new mail server. This Outlook has a web version in addition to the traditional desktop application. Microsoft is trying to create good reputation after its failure to keep spammers and hackers out of Hotmail, which resulted in a loss of users. It provides unlimited storage space to users. In addition to this, it also provides direct access to twitter and Facebook, and provides a built-in Skype option.
Hotmail is one of the first few mailing services that were launched by Microsoft, with the internet boom. Now, it has over 325 million users worldwide. It enjoyed the maximum market share for a long time due to its first mover advantage, but now the competitors are rising. Google’s Gmail and Yahoo mail are giving tough time to Hotmail. Google attracted many users with the introduction of Gmail, as it offered unlimited storage space and blocked the spam messages and provides security from hackers. Microsoft is now trying to regain the lost users through Outlook 2012. The previous users with hotmail and live ids can use the email service through their old logins. New users will be given live and outlook ids for use.
Outlook 2012 tries to stop the spam messages by automatically detecting newsletters and promotional offers, and labeling them as spam. It adds a universal unsubscribe button to the emails which are recognized as ads. It filters any promotions and sends them into trash.
